How a dog can inspire kindness and promote bully prevention

Toby the dog here!

I'm a dog with a blog

on a mission to make our world a kinder place... for people and animals!

Children are our leaders of the future.

What they see. Experience and Learn shapes the future.... Their future.

When I was on our PAWS Across Canada Kindness tour, we provided presentations to schools about
kindness, acceptance and respect.   Check out these students demonstrating kindness and respect to me...

This then ripples out of the presentation and into the school.

I gotta say....

Kids really paid attention to my story....and to my BARK (Be Accepting Respectful Kind) message.

Mom was talking to Sharon Sayler on Life Interrupted radio about dealing with bullying in schools and in workplaces, and what we can do about it.  You can listen to the show here

Here's a few tips mom suggested:

1.  Spend time talking in your family.  Drive time and dinner time are great moments to catch up with your children, role play how to deal with situations (like bullying) and talk about what's going on at school and at home.

2.  Put your best foot (or paw) forward.  Speak with respect.  Listen with interest.  Accept without judgement.  That's what mom teaches in her workshops for businesses.

3.  Teach children how to be a good friend.

4.  Just be kind!

What's your mission statement?

Toby the dog here.

Yup!

I'm a dog with a blog!

And I am smiling cuz I am just one happy dog!

And.

Because my book just won GOLD in the Global eBook Awards.

Is that PAWsome or what!

I am all about teaching kids kindness, acceptance and respect.  That's what this book helps with, teaching kids to be a good friend and make the world a better place by being kind.

Here's some pictures some kids drew for us about kindness.  Simple solutions.  That's why I love kids!

What lessons have your pets taught you about kindness, acceptance and respect?

We would love to hear them.

What's your WHY? What dogs can teach you about purpose.

What's your why?

Why do you love to do what you love to do?

I am still a pup so might be early days for knowing my why... but... I know it has to do with loving people, making them laugh, and playing fetch.  All 3 in one activity is a Toby PAWfect day!

Mom and Keith Sanderson, Max A Pooch's dad, talked about purpose (or PAWpose as I call it) on her PAWsitive Radio show. - listen here

Max A Pooch has a PAWsome mission... he is cleaning the world. Literally!  He is a recycling dog that picks up litter too.  What a great way to teach children about care for the environment! And purpose!

Mom gave three tips to help you humans be more purposeful at work:

1) Know your company vision, values, goals and purpose. Learn it. Recite it. Post it. Live it!
2) Know what makes your teammates jazzed.  What is their why?
3) Help the team know their contribution matters and helps with the big picture...the company vision and purpose.

And I'll just add one. Have fun. Teams that have fun are more likely to be purposeful!

Can't think of something fun to do as a team?

Here's a few of my fave ideas:

a) As a team go visit the local animal shelter.
b) Go for a walk at lunch.
c) Watch a fun (and educational) video on you tube.
d) Read my book On Toby's Terms... :)

My point? Everyday Show up a little more present... a little more on purpose. The world will thank you. You'll thank yourself.

Until next week, let's be kind to one another.
