Do Dog’s Go To Heaven?

Toby the dog here....welcome to my PAWsitive Dog Blog.
Mom interviewed Jean Holmes, author, on PAWsitive Radio.  Jean was surrounded by animals as a child. Her father was a veterinarian and her mom raised Pedigree Doxens. They also had cows, ducks, chickens geese and a pet crow. Jean’s mom started asking Ministers if dogs go to heaven. She got a variety of different answers, which inspired Jean to research and explore this question further.

Turning to the bible Jean starting researching and writing, which turned into her book, Do Dogs Go To Heaven, which is now in its second edition.

Jean also shared some of the wonderful lessons us dogs teach you humans. Lessons like:
- Healthy boundaries
- Unconditional love and acceptance
- Forgiveness
- Patience

You can check out Jean's book by clicking on the book cover above.

Max A Pooch- Black Dog Gone Green

Toby the Dog here... welcome to my PAWsitive Blog! Here's the latest news from mom and I and our PAWsitive Radio Show:
Me...Toby the Dog and mom, Charmaine Hammond hosts of PAWsitive Radio!

Mom and I interviewed Keith Sanderson, Founder and President of Max A Pooch.

Max a Pooch the recycling dog and Keith.

Max A Pooch is one awesome dog!  Keith, his pet dad, has trained him to recycle! I want to learn that. He knows the difference between litter and recyclables, and can even go find Keiths' slippers and sunglasses.  Way to go Max for helping our world get a little greener! Four Paws up from us.

Mom and Keith also talked about how Max A Pooch got his name, this is quite the story... you really must listen to Keith tell this story:   http://www.blogtalkradio.com/teamtoby/2013/10/23/max-a-pooch-and-bully-prevention-lessons-from-dogs

I Loved the part where Keith and mom talked about how us animals are great teachers for you humans and how dogs need a purpose too.  Keith is an advocate for animals, he is helping save animals by writing articles, sharing his corporate world experience with non profits, and, sharing information about the great services like rescues, shelters, and more.  Keith also is bringing some of the animal protection and welfare cases to the public. The more people that know about some of the animal mistreatment that goes on, the more we can work together to make a kind, respectful and accepting world.  Max A Pooch is doing a PAWsome job... let's help him out!

Until next blog... let's be kind to one another.

How to get your pet parent to unplug

Life as Toby the Dog's eyes....

I don’t know about you but I don’t like it when my pet mom goes on to the computer to do her work. I never know if she is writing more books about me, Tweeting, Facebooking or checking her email.

All I know is that her attention is not on me, I can’t easily get eye contact, and sometimes I notice she needs a break, especially when her computer freezes…. The big sigh is the clue.

Here’s what I’ve been doing when she goes on to the computer.

  • Nudge her arm gently under the elbow. Then smile that “puppy love” smile. It is a showstopper.

  •  Your pet parent will probably scratch your ears, smile, say “who’s a good boy. Are you a good boy?” (in that “weird voice”) and turn back to the computer.

This is where you need to ramp it up!

Show your pet parent you are really wanting their attention…. Here’s what works for me. Knock garbage can around, put chin on desk (adorable and gets attention), put a paw on his/her lap. Last resort? Booming bark.

At this point you probably get put on a time out. Or, you pet parent will do what our trainer Gila from Dog is Good is teaching mom and dad. Mom brings up my blanket and some treats (YUM!).

Then she tells me “On Your Mat Toby.” Of course I go, there’s a treat involved, and I love making my human parents happy.  Then “Toby Settle, Stay.”  Tongue out, big smile, wait… and … I get the treat.  Then she makes it a longer time between treats. Eventually after a few little treats (by the way, she cuts one small treat into little pieces, I am so onto her strategy), I go to sleep. It’s all about getting caught up on sleep so I can play fetch longer when she is done on the computer. Hint…sleep with one eye open just in case your pet parent finishes off on the computer early. You never want to miss fetch time.

Until next time,
Have a PAWsome day!  Help your humans be the person you know they are!
